This morning we got a very early start and were in the park by 8:30am. We made our first stop at prismatic spring at the mid basin. We got lucky and found parking for Thor and we made the trek up the hill to see the colorful spring. Nothing like the smell of hot sulfur in the morning to make the stomach turn. The colors were amazing but the prismatic spring did not look quite as nice in person as in the pictures because of all of the steam coming off making it very hard to see the colors. We did get a neat picture of a steam dragon coming off of one of the pools. Some of the smaller pools showed some really nice blues and other colors. Next stop Old Faithful!
The drive to Old Faithful was pretty short. We found parking very easy for a change and made the walk over to the gyser. We got there just in time to miss it going off at 11am. This gives about 94 min before the next eruption so we can take a look around the visitor center and walk the path around old faithful. We pulled a bench around nook to have some lunch while wait for Old Faithful to give us a show. The majesty of the things this planet can do is truly amazing. Old faithful erupt nearly on time and did not disappoint. We did catch a few other gysers going off and we made the trek around gyser hill. After the short 1.3 mile loop we went to the art shop, did a little souvenir shopping and then hit the road to Grous ventre Camp Ground for another hookup free adventure. Along the way we made a few stops for some sites of lakes, The Teton Mountain tips, and the snake river. Some amazing views.
Tonight while moving a picnic table I managed to nearly rip my big toe nail off of my non driving foot; that really smarts. Hopefully having a few days of driving and not a lot of action will give me time to heal before we get to Yosemite.
Hard to believe we had been at this for a week already. Tomorrow we float down the snake river and start out second week of this incredible family journey.
