Grand Canyon full day. We start with a horseback trail ride from apache stables. Riding 4 horses (rider), Brown Jug (Ellie), Raton (Caroline) , Beau (Julie), and Ben Kay (Desi). The highlight of the ride seemed to be around the bodily functions of the horses. Beau, ridden by Julie, often wanted to stop and take a pitstop. At one point all of the horses stopped and basically urinated in unison, never seen anything like it. We gently rode around for about an hour or so looking at the Kaibab forrest. We can honesty say there was not much to look at. This was the girls first horseback riding experience. Ellie liked the ride and Carrie’s response when asked if she liked it was “mmmm hmmmm”.
After tipping our trail guide we made the short trip back to the visitor center, had lunch, and went to pick up our merch. We got some shirts and nice artwork.
After the merch we got on the blue line, to the end, to pickup the red line. There are 9 stops total on the way to Hermits Rest. We only skipped the Hopi. Each time we would get off the bus go and look over the canyon view, take some pictures, and then go wait back for the bus again. It took us about 4 hours to do the hole trip from end to end. We made it up to Hermits rest for a pit stop, some pictures, a snack, and some unique merch. To quell some young hearts, after we got back down from the red line we walked to Bright Angel Lodge for some Ice Cream with a View. After almost having a melt down everybody enjoyed some ice cream.
We then made out way back on the blue line to the visitor center, picked up the RV and headed back to trailer village. After simple dinner, we headed out for a night walk to Mather point for some star gazing. It was a clear black sky with very little moon light so we had some great star gazing, could see the milky way and it was just amazing.
Tomorrow we are going to divide and conquer. Desi and Caroline will take 1 mile hike down into the canyon while Ellie and Julie sleep in and pack up the site.
