Day 3 – Estes Park, CO Town Adventures

”The night turned out to get quite cold and we all woke up shivering our butts off. We slowly got up, the girls had some croissants, and Julie made eggs for her and me. After getting everyone fed and dressed we headed into town for some sightseeing, shopping, and lunch. Then we have a reservation for RMN Park from 1-3pm.

The automatic levelers on the RV aren’t working, a replacement part arrived with the owners today and they are going drive 2 hours to come up and install it. They will be at the site around 1pm to replace the part.

We caught a shuttle from the local mart to the downtown area, walked around, did some shopping, Desi got a Colorado baseball hat, we had a smoothie at a coffee shop on the river, and walked around. We had a great lunch at a little cafe Claire’s restaurant and Bar. After the restaurant we went to try to get an uber to go to the park because no public shuttles are running due to COVID. Guess what NO CARS AVAILABLE!!! AHHH. It’s now 12:45pm and we come to the quick conclusion that the only way we are getting to the park is driving ourselves in the RV. Problem now is the owners are delayed in traffic until 2pm. They need the RV to put the part in. The part ended up not solving the problem and we ended up deciding to bag the trip to RMN park until tomorrow. We got reservations to cover getting in the park from 7am-11am to make sure we make it this time! So we’ll pack up the RV first thing in the morning and head up to the park.

The rest of today its relaxing, Desi going for a run, the girls playing cards, a wonderful steak dinner, a trip to walk to get some ice cream, and prepping for tomorrow.

On tap for tomorrow is the much anticipated Rocky Mountain National Park, a picnic lunch, and 6 hour drive to Wyoming on our way to Yellowstone.

Day 2 – Estes Park, CO

Today started off with a divide and conquer mission. Desi went to get the RV with our friend Adam and Julie went with the girls to run some errands. Today is Ellie’s Birthday. What do we have in store for her? An RV, some errands, a road trip, and our first night camping in the RV. Happy Birthday to our energetic creative 8 year old!

Turns out the RV was over an hour outside of Denver in Monument. After getting a 1.5 hour thorough walk through of the RV Desi headed back to meet up with Julie and the Girls. The automatic levelers on the RF aren’t working, but we’ll go into that more later.

The drive from Denver to Estes was not too bad just a little over an hour away. We stopped at a scenic view and met some local wildlife. Ellie even got to feed some chipmunks right from her hand.

After the stop we headed to downtown Estes park to load up for meals for a few days and then headed to the camp ground. Site 95 at the Spruce Lake RV Park. The lake is more of a little pond but it has some amazing views of the mountains and sits right along the side of a running river that is just amazing to hear at night.

Got the campsite setup pretty quickly and made dinner, burgers and tater tots. YUM! We had an after dinner walk to the local store and planned out Day3.

Up tomorrow a trip to downtown Estes, a visit from the RV owners, and a planned outing to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Day 1 – Planes, Trucks and Jet Skis

It started with a 6 am wake up! Hop in the van and head to the airport. A short 4 hour plain ride to Denver, some napping, some reading, and were in the mile high city.

A local friend picked us up from the aiport, loaned us a car for the day, and treated us to food and some relaxation time at his parents lake. After it feeling like 3pm and not having eaten since before the plane we were starving. The parents at this point will point out that everyone had snacks in their bags but chose note to eat them.

We had some fun on jet skis, played in the water, relaxed and ate food. By 7pm we were full and ready to crash.

Day 1 in the books, tomorrow pickup the RV and head to Estes park!
